
Life at UT Dallas
Life as a Comet is fun. You'll find things like a full-service residential community, plus athletics, University Recreation and an activity center. You'll also have access to health, counseling and career centers, and a wide range of student organizations to join. Whether you're searching for new friends or for a way to connect with a cause, opportunities abound at UT Dallas.
Housing
Student housing offers affordable on-campus living options for those who appreciate being close to classes, dining and recreational opportunities. Incoming freshmen live in our residence halls, and apartments and residence halls are offered to all other students who wish to reside on campus.
Living Learning Communities
Living Learning Communities are groups of freshmen who share common academic goals or interests. Students involved in these communities live in the LLC residence hall, enroll in courses together and participate in customized group activities.
Dining
UT Dallas offers an array of dining choices, including the Comet Cafe, The Pub and a large dining hall situated near the residence halls (pictured above). Menu options include burgers, pizza, sushi, sandwiches and hot meals. Other eateries on campus include Jason’s Deli, Papa John’s, Subway, Chick-fil-A and Einstein Bros. Bagels.
Athletics
Competing at the NCAA Division III level, the UT Dallas intercollegiate athletic program is one of the most successful in the American Southwest Conference. The program offers six men’s and seven women’s sports teams.
University Recreation
University Recreation offers the opportunity for students to participate in intramural and club sports programs. These programs give students an outlet for leisure, fitness, friendly competition and social and leadership development.
Activity Centers
The Activity Center includes a fitness area, racquetball, squash and basketball courts, a climbing wall, a multi-purpose room and an indoor swimming pool. Outdoors there are sand volleyball courts, tennis courts and softball, baseball and soccer fields. A separate facility, Recreation Center West, is located near the residence halls and features indoor courts, a fitness area and a multipurpose room.
Arts and Culture
The School of Arts and Humanities brings professional and student concerts, art exhibitions, dance and theatre productions, public lectures and poetry readings to the UT Dallas campus each year. Many events are free to students.
Career Center
The Career Center provides career development workshops, career counseling, mock interviews, resume critiques, job search preparation and career expos. The center also helps students find employment while they are in school, including internship opportunities related to their majors.
Commuter Students
The Road Warriors program is designed specifically with commuters in mind. A one-stop shop to answer questions related to parking, campus services, meeting others and more, Road Warriors helps those who live off campus find their place at UT Dallas.
Fraternity and Sorority Life
UT Dallas is home to 24 national Greek-letter fraternities and sororities, representing organizations from the Inter-fraternity council, the United Greek Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the College Pan-Hellenic Council.
Leadership
Opportunities to practice and experience leadership are plentiful at UT Dallas. Students can choose from such programs as: Multicultural Peer Advocates, Orientation Leaders, Peer Advisors, Student Ambassadors, Student Government and the Student Leadership Programs.
Multiculturalism and Diversity
UT Dallas enjoys a diverse student population. Our International Center oversees education abroad, international student services, intercultural programs, international risk and safety and international partnership development. The Multicultural Center provides cultural programs, educational resources, leadership opportunities and support services.
New Student Programs
The New Student Programs office provides activities to help students get off to a strong start at UT Dallas, beginning with Freshman Orientation. Comet Camp offers the opportunity to make new friends, and Success Camp connects students with faculty and staff who offer advice and suggestions for making the most of the college experience.
Spirit Programs
Spirit Programs include the UT Dallas mascot, cheerleaders, power dancers, a pep band and the Crush Crew. Each promotes school spirit, sportsmanship and school loyalty through their support of athletic teams and other student activities.
Student Media
Student Media includes The Mercury, Radio UTD, UTD TV and A Modest Proposal. The Mercury publishes bi-weekly on Mondays throughout the school year. Radio UTD is an internet radio station with a mix of music and original programming. UTD TV broadcasts online news and entertainment shows. A Modest Proposal publishes in magazine format eight months per year.
Student Organizations
Student Organizations play an important role in campus life. In addition to the many established organizations, students are able to form new organizations when they find at least four other students with similar interests.
Student Success Center
The Student Success Center offers individualized tutoring, peer-led team learning, supplemental instruction and coordinated group study to help assist students in achieving their academic goals.
Student Volunteerism
Students are given the opportunity to develop a greater sense of social responsibility through volunteer service and community outreach via the Office of Student Volunteerism.
Health and Wellness
UT Dallas provides programs and services designed to enhance students’ health and well-being. The Student Health Center provides care for acute and stabilized chronic illnesses, minor injuries and women’s care. The Student Wellness Center offers educational programs and resources that promote healthy lifestyles and behaviors.
Counseling and Recovery
Licensed psychologists and counselors are available to students at the Student Counseling Center. The Center for Students in Recovery assists those with substance use disorders or other addictions, those affected by addiction, or individuals exploring the impact of potential addictive behavior on his or her life.
